Portrait Commission info

PRICING AND SIZE
Commissions are usually a set price of £550 for one subject.
This price includes:
Portrait painting/drawing
Half day photoshoot
Consultation
Digital copy of all photos taken and editing of your favourites.

Commission pieces are usually A3 – A2 in size (unframed*).

Bespoke pieces are individually priced. Life size portraits, especially of horses are popular with people who have the space to hang them! These usually cost an average of £1,500 – £3,000 depending on style and medium.

*Framing is not included, but I can organise framing for you. (Recommended as I get a fairly hefty discount which I pass on to you.)
WHAT DOES THE PHOTOSHOOT ENTAIL?
The photoshoots are usually great fun and a chance for me to get to know your animal better, and understand the relationship between you. At the end of the photoshoot we’ll sit down and choose together the image to be used for the final portrait, and your favourite images for editing. We will also discuss how you wish your portrait to be created, style and medium etc. This process results in my final portrait painting / drawing being a true capture of the personality and character of your animal.

The photo shoot will usually take place here at Yew Tree Farm (including Tarn Hows, Rose Castle etc), but it can also take place at a favourite walking spot like the beach or a local wood or fell**.
Although the final portrait may be of one animal, there’s nothing to stop other animal friends being in the photoshoot if you wish! Some people like to include their pet’s favourite toys, or their animal at work (ie dog agility, horse in hand or under saddle etc). Some shoots have included specific garden and architectural features. It’s up to you!

You can use the photos to produce a printed album. It’s fairly easy and I’ll show you how. They make great presents for family members!***

***I’m  happy to produce a photobook for you but its time consuming so there was is an additional charge of £100 plus the printing cost of the book. Normally between £19 and £80 depending on number of pages, format etc

**there is a charge of 49p per mile for photoshoots carried out away from Yew Tree farm.

I‘D LIKE TO COMMISSION A PORTRAIT ???? WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
If you decide to go ahead then firstly I will arrange a date for your photo shoot and book you onto the portrait schedule. I’ll need a phone number so I can contact you to do this.
A deposit of £100 is required at this stage to secure the booking.
A PHOTOSHOOT IS NOT AN OPTION FOR MY ANIMAL
For many reasons, it may not be possible or appropriate to do a photoshoot. You may live too far away (although I’ve travelled as far as Switzerland for commissions!), Or sadly your animal may no longer be with us.
In these circumstances you will need to be able to provide good quality, digital images, which you have permission to use, and I will assess if they are suitable For the style I work in. This does not effect a change of price. A deposit is not required until we have decided on an image and you are ready to book your portrait.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
Expect the photoshoot to be between 2 and 4hrs
The commission painting/drawing will usually be completed within 6 weeks of the photoshoot unless you require it sooner. You will receive the digital photos on a USB stick on the day, and edited versions by email within a couple of days of the shoot.
If I’m producing a photobook for you, you can expect it within 4 weeks of the photoshoot.
I WANT THIS COMMISSION TO BE A SURPRISE PRESENT

It is possible to produce a commission surreptitiously and I’m happy to do so. However, experience has repeatedly shown that people really enjoy being part of the process from the beginning, and also prefer to choose their own image for the final painting. So you may wish to consider a gift voucher to present, allowing the recipient to book the photoshoot themselves and be fully involved from the outset. You can always make them a printed photo album as a surprise!
